Patch two node cluster

Hi all,

Does anyone have experience with patching messaging cluster? We have active-active messaging store (Sparc, Sun Java(tm) System Messaging Server 6.2-6.01 (built Apr 3 2006)). and want to install -63 patch.

For patch we have to boot server into single user mode. Only documentation about patching cluster is from patch docs:

*** quote

For HA (High Availability) systems, you should remove the Messaging Server from the cluster prior to applying the patch. For example, this could be done by removing the messaging services from the cluster resource groups.

*** end quote

Also, both messaging stores are 60% full (so we can't move users to avoid downtime).

Our (last resort) plan is to:

- remove messaging services from cluster

- boot server to singleuser mode and patch it

- put messaging back to cluster

Documentation does not list what should be done with storage (and other resources of same cluster). How to prevent storage from one node to switch to other node when first node is in singleuser mode)

As I see it, we have high available system that needs to be taken down for a couple of hours for maintenance :)

First, there is actually no need to go to single user mode. In fact, while Messaging needs to be down, your Directory needs to be up and able to communicate, something single user mode makes difficult.

The readme has that extra line added by an automatic system we're trying t get changed.

Please read down for the actual install directions. . .

Yes, you should be removing the Messaging stuff from cluster to patch.

Hi Jay,DS is on the other host so going into the init s mode is an option. NSS_NSPR_JSS patch # 119213 is one of the prerequirements for Gljiva's patch and the patch instructions also don't have anything regarding HA.BR,Adnan

Apply the NSS patch in single user mode. Bring the box back to level 3 for the balance.
