Creating a whole new system

I am a final year student of Computer Science, and the title of my final year project is :

A SYSTEM TO MANAGE SOFTWARE AND HARDWARE RESOURCES IN A PC UTILISING DECISION SUPPORT SYSTEMS.

The specification for my project is as below:

This system has a database which includes details of machines(details including CPU, motherboard details, RAM, HDD, GFX, NIC), drivers for components, and also updated software packages.

A front end which will allow user to interrogate systems, find out what slots are in use, what slots are free, to ask which systems will accept a new component, to provide drivers in demand(by machine and component name), to query available software updates for machines and install updates.

I have downloaded a few set of codes from open source websites like sourceforge.net . These codes are similar to my title, but the language is in Spanish, and the problem that I face is also that I have to combine these sets of codes to actually produce my whole system. Combining all these codes to form a large one is the difficulty I face besides having to translate the Spanish bits which is very time consuming.

Aigini, do you think it's wise to put so much faith into people whom you do not know? What if, god forbid, they cannot hold up their end of the deal and you end up with no end project?

Not to mention that some would call it cheating: letting others do your project for you while you pretend to have written it yourself. Some schools/universities even expel those students when caught doing so!

Tqs for understanding me!!!!!

Actually this semester was from May to August. Last semester was from January to April. Last semester which was during our first module of this final year project, we had to finish up the documentation for Phase 1 and Phase 2 of our report. And I had 3 other subjects together with that too.

I have 3 other subjects this year too.

I was looking for code from the internet.

And ended with DMRemon, opsi and dekiwiki. All of which i got from sourceforge.net.

When I was in school we had wake up each morning at 3 am to go into the Nile delta to pick papyrus so we would have something to take notes on that day. We called those scrolls laptops because they were so much lighter then the granite slabs. Which reminds me of that old PharoahSoft mission statement "A slab of granite for every slave", but that's neither here nor there.

The point is that my first year half of my class was eaten by crocodiles and another quarter (or as we used to call it eye-eye-bird-funky-dancing-guy-bird)died in the great pyramid slab collapse of '03. So we were grateful for our papyrus and our hard work and thanked Ra every night that the Hittities hadn't shown up yet.

oh boy...

doesn't know Java, doesn't know Spanish or English, thinks turning in someone elses work as his own is perfectly fine, too lazy to even do some research of his own, extremely gullible, too cheap to pay for services rendered.

I'd expected that from an Indian schoolkid (after all, they do it here all the time), not from someone from Malaysia. Malays are usually more productive and well educated than that (though in my experience indeed not to be trusted though my set of reference points in that is admittedly small).

Heretic! The Aten is the one true God, and Pharaoh is His son.

Your class getting eaten by the Holy Crocodiles was their punishment for their heresy. You only were left to survive to bring the Word of Aten to your peers, but obviously failed to get the subtle message of your benevolent God.

> You youth today have it so easy...

Indeed they have. Even you had it easy, we had to memorise everything, weren't allowed to take notes.

And examination was of the thrust and dagger type, highly competitive.

We drank the blood of the failed during our graduation party.

Hey, i do a diploma and i am sure i can complete ur code with that given amount of time doing research

THIS IS A FORUM TO POST ERRORNOUS CODES AND ask questions about exceptions thinks u do not understand etc etc..

u are here trying to ask some1 for a solution which is

NOT RIGHT

no one would help you if u are asking for free codes, try and test them out,,. we dun care how good ur academic results are, the fact that u do not know how to apply it in ur project proves that u study without understanding.. u are only good at memorising..

if one day u were to go to work, u find **** u do not know how to do, u go around asking people for solutions? No way man.. stop screwing around here, u will never get an answer with such a question posted

Some did. I for one told you it is not ethical to hand in an assignment that someone else made and pretend you were the one who wrote it (reply #27). It is called plagiarism and is illegal in many countries. Yet you ignored my post and agreed upon paying someone to do your assignment (reply #42).

Anyway, I've sent an e-mail to the Assistant Dean (Ms Jasmine Low Hong Hoon) of your Computing & IT departement and informed her about your behaviour here.

Cool down, man. I am also a malaysian and went through similar experience before.

Be honest, i think you should not rely on other for the solution. Indeed, you have enough time to research it on the Internet. If you really want to develop your final project in JAVA, then you better learn the basic of JAVA well. Then, plan your requirement and how you want to achieve your result.

Just break down your project into smaller and manageble part so that you can counter each of them effectively. It is no use go after the WHOLE application, module by module is better.

If you think the requirements or title is too tough for you, why not discuss with your tutor to negotiate on the requirement or ask tutor for his/her requirement.

Hope you can finish your final project successfully. Remember that there are more people out there experiencing similar situation just like you. Don't waste too much time on this forum and plan your project more effectively.

If you still don't understand why you're being ridiculed, you might as well give up and admit to your teachers that you're a no-good fake.

You won't make it in the real world anyway.

Vulgar? Dear boy, you've not seen vulgar if you think our little word play here is vulgar.

Herein lies part of your problem. Not just you, obviously, but a whole cross-section of potential developers. I saw this at university, all the time: people relying on the Internet to get them out of trouble. Using the Internet as a research tool is a very good idea, but leaning on it as your only - or even primary - source is not. Every time we got a programming assignment, I could hear most of my class muttering about "I'll get the answers off the Internet!" and such-like. Well, guess what? The Internet can only - at best - give you facts, and other people's opinions, it can't give you an understanding, or instill an aptitude in you. Nor can it teach you problem-solving, which is a major component of software development. You can either do it, or you can't. You can become better at it with practice, but it can't really be taught, and it certainly can't be ingested from some web pages. To my knowledge, I'm the only person from my class who actually went on to write software for a living, and I'm one of the few who bothered to actually do the work, do some studying, and more importantly, write code outside of what was asked for by the course. Nor did I use the Internet as a crutch, but only as a reference tool. I wrote code. A lot. I read books. A lot

You could find out exactly what libraries you'd need to do your project, and even be given an outline of a design for it, but unless you've got some programming aptitude, it'll be worth exactly squat. The Internet, forums included, are an aide, and nothing more. Don't rely on it too heavily, it's a recipe for failure

This thread is decaying. I think it's time to give it some new life.

You know what I don't get? The OP is Malaysian, yet he uses the letter "u" instead of the word "you". I've seen this on the forums from many people who are from foreign countries. The reason that makes no sense is that English is not their first language. Obviously then, they have taken classes in English.

If so, what English teacher teaches people to say things like "u r teh nub" instead of "you are the noob"? I can understand it coming from native English speakers (i.e. I understand why it would be easier to use; I don't understand WHY people use it) because they have grown up their whole life around English and can understand it better, therefore they can understand acronyms and stuff, but non-native speakers? I don't get it.

The @OP may borrow the aforementioned fire-ants from my place. I think there's still enough of them around to make quit a substantial suppository.

And no, I assure you that I'm not racist. I just hate lazy people... or (more accurately) I just hate CARRYING lazy people.

Bah... Luxury! When I was a lad there 13 of us living in shoe box in the bottom of septic tank... We had to lick road clean wit' tongue just to make enough money to by a preloved rasberry lollipop!

for all we know, he could have posted the name of a hated classmate. Though that may be crediting him with more cleverness than he deserves, still the possiblity exists.

That would require that he had the foresight to sign up under said classmate's name, since his username and alleged actual name match. Since he genuinely seemed to think he'd get a satisfactory answer, it's likely he used his own name. Still, the possibility for evil genius exists

}

public void KillStupidOP(OP Op,AUDIENCE, Audience)

{

try

Ok, heres some real advice:

I suggest you create a web site for users to enter thier data into a database and retrieve the data and display it. Start out with a very simple web site as described next that allows a user to read and write to a database. Do not try to implement your particular project requirements until that web site is working. You will have to hand code the web site and not simply get code off the internet to do it.

0) download java jdk1.5 and install it on your computer. Set the enviornment variable for JAVA_HOME per its installation instructions.

Open up a dos window on your computer and type 'java' and verify no errors occur in the dos window.

1) Load a java development enviornment on your computer such as Eclipse WTP and become familiar with it.

2) Download jakarta tomcat server software and install it on your computer. Set the enviornment variable CATALINA_HOME per its instructions. Open a dos window, go to the tomcat bin folder and type 'startup'. Then open a browser and go to the url of the tomcat server and verify the tomcat home page displays.

3) Download and install a free database such as Oracle Lite or MySql (better yet, whatever database your class is using). Create a simple table such as 'person' with some simple fields in it such as firstName, lastName. Add one record with firstName='John', lastName='Smith'. You may have to get someone to help you set this database up since its rather difficult to do.

4) Create a new java tomcat project in Eclipse.

5) Download a JDBC jar file that was specifically written for your database from the vendor's web site. Copy the jar file in the 'lib' folder of your project and associate it with your project.

6) Create a simple class that instansiates a connection pool. Get a connection, fetch one record from the database table 'Person' and print it to the screen. Close the connection properly.

7) Create a JSP page with a textfield that displays the firstName and lastName.

8) On the JSP page, change it to submit a change to the firstName and lastName back to the database and then redisplay the page.

*****

If you can accomplish the above, you can then look at implementing your project by creating a number of database tables to hold all the data in your project and displaying it to the user, allowing him to add new records to each table or altering existing records. Accomplishing the above is a major task and you may not have enought time to do it. I suggest talking to the professor of your class and seeing if he agrees with the above approach. Since everyone in your class probably has a final project, its probably permissable for you to get together with other people in the class and work together to get steps 1 through 8 working correctly for everyone in the group. Each of your team mates can take a separate task and study it. For instance, one person can research getting the correct database jar file from the vendor while another works on getting tomcat up and running. This approach will save everyone a lot of time creating thier project.

Once you and your team mates have step 1 through 8 working, you need to create your own project independently of them. You can still work together if you have a problem with general questions about how the technology works, but do not copy each other's code or your professor would surely kill you.
