Is function prototype same as function signature?

I have a little doubt that funtion prototype and function signature is not the same. But people around me says that both are same.Pls reply soon.Thanx in advance

By the way, since Java doesn't know functions: why does it matter? I also never heard of the term "method/function prototype", except in C.
