"The Widgets"
Once upon a time, deep in the forests of Tym'barym, lived a magical race called the Widgets. Now Widgets were one of the wee-folk, smaller than dwarfs, but bigger than fairies. The average Widget was about 3 hands tall. They had small, pointed noses and dark, almond-shaped eyes on thin faces. They had no wings, but had short tails, and were excellent climbers, living amongst the tree-tops.
The Widgets lived at peace with the trees and all the other creatures of the forest. They harvested figs and berries from the trees. They would often sing lovely songs that would entrance wayward forest wanderers. Once entranced, they would then descend from the tree-tops with sticks and rocks and pummel the trespassers to death and string them up from the highest branches as a warning to others.
One day, folks from a nearby village went out into the forest to find what had become of those who had gone missing. They came across the bodies of their friends and family, dangling from high in the trees. Seeing so many intruders, the Widgets sang their entrancing song and then attacked the other towns-folk, but they were too many villagers and the commotion snapped them out of their reverie and where able to escape back to their village.
The villagers, angry at their loss, decided that something must be done to avenge the dead. So they set fire to the forest for miles around the Widgets' territory and wiped them out with a raging inferno. Now the Widgets are no more.
The End
