If you give me a thumbs down I will track you down and break YOUR thumb.
Is that cyberbullying, lol?
I gave filestream a thumbs down but only because he was too popular.
< note to filestream: i have no thumbs >
I love my comment to him:
"Q.E.D: I took a point away from you."

Fairly good use of QED in my opinion.
Of course, good code gets a thums up:

Even with the ban? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Soft_drink
<quote>
In August 2006, after a controversial new report about the presence of pesticides in soft drinks sold in India, many state governments have issued a ban of the sale of soft drinks in schools. Kerala has issued a complete ban on the sale or manufacture of soft drinks altogether. In return, the soft drink companies like Coca Cola and Pepsi have issued ads in the media regarding the safety of consumption of the drinks. Since there is yet no enforcement[citation needed] of the agreed standards by Bureau of Indian Standards, the governing body to oversee the safety levels, in soft drinks in India, it is to be seen how this situation is to be resolved.[8]

This SDN Share site is going to fail fast if they continue to make
people wait a whole day to post messages. The messages
should be managed by the community and we could flag spam
and advertisements.
and by the way, that fresh rabbit page made me throw up in my mouth a little, lol.
Woo Hoo. I just figured it out.
SDN SHARE sorts by "FRESHNESS" which I thought meant "how new it is" but it actually refers to some voodoo fresh rating I dont know about.
So my "article" was posted but it was immediately buried on page 6!!!
Check it out! Give me some thumbs up!

I don't know. They probably had problems at that time. I have now been able to post that shows how to use asm to find dependencies between classes.
It's about 500 lines of code, but fairly simple. I hope it will be accepted :)

Please do. We should also post a description on how to convert an int to a String and vice versa :)
Seriously, while this of course had to lead to another geekinterview.com incarnation, I do appreciate the ability to post an article or tech tip somewhere. The problem is, whatever gem I could theoretically produce will probably get lost in lots of clutter.
I'm not nerdy enough to run yet another Java blog and posting anything here is pointless, so maybe that's a better way. One just has to care enough about it to use it.

I think that that unfortunately is true. There are more beginners and bad programmers than good ones. People will probably rank a post on int->String->int higher than a post on how to analyze byte code to get dependencies :(

...unless you game the system, which appears relatively simple. Your 'goodness' score appears to be four * (vote total) + 2 * (number of comments). So even the crappiest code is considered 'good' if enough people talk about it. The default post ordering is by 'freshness,' which appears to be 'goodness' minus some penalty for age. Filestream's JTable will probably stay on the front page for quite some time.

Exactly what I wanted to do with this one:

Thanks for the tip TuringPest. I never realized that calling some private initializer methods could lead to breaking the encapsulation! Although I couldn't read your comment on the Article because the link is now broken when I try to view it... Stupid thing! Sent another mail this morning so that they fix this up...

Yes, but judging by the history of these forums, that site's going to get worse before it gets better.
An important point about SDN share posts.
Do not bother submitting "tech tips". You are better off to submit "Code Samples" or "Articles".
This has to do with how points are awarded. You get x points for the submission itself and you can collect only the same number of points in votes.
Tech tips are worth 2 points, code samples 4 and articles worth 10. The maximums (counting vote points) are then 4, 8 and 20 points.
So a tech tip with 8 votes had max-ed out with points at 4.
A code sample maxs out at 16 votes.
An article doesn't max out until 40 votes.

I am hoping that sdn is littered with less **** than the fora. Peter has some useful code samples, for example.

I don't know what's going on.
I used tags like from here in my last post and it seemed to work better. I didn't use them in my first post and the formatting had the same issue (all one long line) but then it got fixed. I imagine an admin person went and fixed it.

"i can make in more color"
for example?

Yeah there definitely is an admin going through this site a lot. When I emailed them yesterday, I was told I could use basic html tags so I used some of them such as <pre> and it was replaced by <code> during the approval process.
Anyhow, my post is now fixed and I could read and reply to your comment TuringPest! ;)

Really, lol?
In that case I will post my submission here.
ENJOY!
THE OMNISCIENT UNIVERSAL ANSWER MACHINE
Before visiting http://forum.java.sun.com/index.jspa for the answers to
your panoply of questions pause and consult this Universal Answer
Machine. Im not exactly sure how it works. Somehow the underlying
bytecode that is created when this is compiled is able to tap into some
esoteric universal consciousness. Try it out. I am sure it will live up to
my claims. (Note: for non-windows users, edit the browserLoc value)
import java.util.Scanner;
public class UniversalAnswerMachine{
public static void main(String[] args){
System.out.print("Ask the Genie Your Question: ");
Scanner inputer = new Scanner(System.in);
String question = inputer.nextLine();
question = question.replaceAll("[^a-zA-Z0-9\\s]+", "");
question = question.replaceAll("\\s+", "+");
String browserLoc = "\"C:/Program Files/Internet Explorer/iexplore.exe\"";
String googleURL = "http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q=" + question;
try{
Runtime runtime = Runtime.getRuntime();
Process process = runtime.exec(browserLoc + " " + googleURL);
} catch(Exception e){}
}
}
On second look, I should have added a cool filtering method to weed
out words like "the", "a" etc. Also "." should be kept as a character.

Also don't swallow exceptions- print out a stack trace.

Needs more work :)
You can use java 6 to launch the default browser, and it will work on all platforms.

You've never eaten rabbit? What about guinea pig?
> You can use java 6 to launch the default browser, and it will work on all platforms.
Not all platforms have a concept of "default browser". In fact, not all platforms have a browser.

YAT, if you dont upgrade your Commodore to comply with zawinski's law we will have to take it away from you.
