5/07 Developer Install
Before I give up altogether on this edition, can anyone give me a bit of guidance regarding:
1) 5/07 Developer has been changed so DHCP is the default for network IP address assignment. Before, I could use static addressing and it stuck. Now, when I use the applet to set static address it goes back to DHCP assignment when I reboot. I've tried everything I can find to disable this behavior but no luck at all with dhcpmgr, dhcpconfig, etc. True - I can use ifconfig after boot but that's a pain in the rear to keep the static IP where I want it.
2) No matter what, I can ping Solaris from another machine, can see the Solaris share but no way can I log into the share and browse the share. I can see the XP from Solaris, do as I want with the XP files but going the other way doesn't work at all. This is another issue that's got me stumped. I can't seem to get a readable connection from the XP to the Solaris machine no matter what I try. (Samba connection I'm trying to get up). It looks like a permissins issue but where do I go to fix the problem? Login from the XP to the Solaris doesn't work . . .
Installation went OK but there is no interactive network screens and the installation assigns its own machine name and obviously the network settings. THe Gnome applet to set network address is useless it seems, although I can change the machine name, reboot and that sticks. I'm no expert but I've managed to get other OS's to do exactly what I want - not so wirh Solaris.
Help, anyone?
Thanks
JIm
