Running two JMStudio instances on same machine problem

Hi,

My name is Costas and I am facing a problem regarding multicasting.

I want run an application which forwards multicast data to Unicast clients and I am implementing it in JAVA.

I have aproblem because I believe that my laptop does not support multicast. Why I say that? Because a week ago I had installed Windows XP Home Edition as delivered fromHP on my laptop. JMStudio worked just fine by broadcasting a video on a multicast address and receiving it on a different window on the same machine.

I recently bought Windows XP Professional SP2 OEM and installed it and I started developing my application but my receiver would never get the data. I tried JMStudio and it happens the same thing. The window that sends the data shows that RTP packets are transmitted but the receiving window cannot receive anything.

Is there a way to find out if my PC supports mulitcast or IGMP?

My PC Configuration:

HP nx9420 laptop

Network Interfaces:

1. Intel PRO/Wireless (I have it disabled at the moment)

2. Broadcom NetXtreme Gigabit Ethernet

OS: Windows XP Professional SP2

Anything else that you think is relevant and want to know I can provide

Any help is really appreciated

Thank you

Costas

I have a really strange problem with my PC and I don't even know how to explain it.

I run an instance of VLC which broadcasts the data of a video file on a multicast address and then I run a different instance on the same PC for receiving and displaying the video.

This worked fine and without any problems when I was working on Windows XP Home Edition SP2. Last week I have bought and installed Windows XP Professional Edition SP2 OEM and when I tried to do the same the receiver did not accept anything.

After numerous of tries and experiments I accidentally found out that when I use a Packet Sniffer Application the time I transmit the video everything works fine again. but only when the Packet sniffer (Ethereal) is active and sniffing packets.

This happens with everything I try --> VLC, JMF, two manually created java classes (sending and receiving)

Does anyone has a hint about what is going wrong?

My PC :

HP nx9420

Windows XP Professional SP2

Kaspersky Internet Security 7

Windows Defender

Anything else you need please let me know

Thanks
