Sparc 20 - able to use 18Gb boot disk?

Hello,

I know this is a very old system and the hardware may not support it, but does anyone know if the Sparc 20 platform supports disk drives larger than the listed 4.5Gb listed on the Sun site? I have tried installing Solaris 9 using an 18Gb disk. The system sees the disk drive properly (ran a format in single user mode and labeled the drive) and the install sees the disk properly. It even allows me to custom partition the drive. But duing the install it bails out, stating that it failed due to the (/) slash partition not having access to cyclinders above 4500, or it may be 45000. In any case, I've specifically laid out my custom partition so that (/) slash does not go above the cyclinder listed in the error message.

Any information on this is appreciated.

you could try a default install and let the OS partition the drive... 18gig drives should just fine... 10k drives may be hotter, so be carefull...keep us posted...haroldkarl
