(Blade 1000 + (2 x CPU) + Solaris 10 + OBP 4.16.4) != Booting System

Hi,

I have recently got a new processor (a X6990A) and installed it into my Blade 1000; this matches the processor that was originally in it. Ever since then I have had no success with booting Solaris with both the processors.

<the story so far>

After I first installed the CPU the system would not properly continue through the OBP section and would hang just after the first Beep. I looked this up and found that there was an OBP patch for the system that would bring the OBP version to 4.16.4. Installed that and now I get the section just after the 揝ubject to licence 厰. The cursor then freezes and all activity stops.

I connected a serial cable up to the system to see if I could get any further info out of the system, and I see that the system makes it up to the CPU detection part of the Solaris loader.

I am now completely stuck as I cannot boot the Machine with both CPU抯 installed, in fact I can even boot off the install CD抯 either (stops in the same place).

I did think that the CPU was broke but then again it will boot and load off either of them when used singularly.

</the story so far>

So I am now in need of help, if ANYONE has any suggestions then please reply.

Thanks in advance,

David

Hi,

OK it is a knackered Motherboard that caused it, it seems that OBP can simply pick up the CPU information without actually needing to init the processor. When solaris gets around to doing that it receives a fault and hangs.

Hope this helps someone else.....
