A D1000 with an Ultra 80

I have a D1000, which passes all of it's diagnostics, and an Ultra-80 which does the same.

HOWEVER, when it comes to getting them to talk, it's a failure, and I need to ask why.

Sun U 80 with a dual-differential PCI card (The SYMBIOS one)

Diff cable to the D1000

Diff cable from OUT-A to IN-B

Terminator on OUT-B.

probe-scsi-all finds the controller, bot no StorEDGE.

a touch /reconfigure and reboot finds no StorEDGE.

The cables have been tested between the U80 and a UltraSCSI box, as has the controller.

The StorEdge has been set to factory defaults, SCSI ID of 1.

Q1) Even having all 12 disks show green lights on the StorEdge, could I have a defective controller in the StorEdge?

Q2) Or do I need some kind of software to get this to work? (The device driver appears to be there...but I am not sure.)
