Can't hear onboard sound with chip CMI9738, but driver is installed!

Hi all,

I'm totally new to Solaris 10 on x86. I'm writing, because I hear no sound. My mainboard K7S5A PRO has an onboard soundchip called "CMI9738". It seems as if the Solaris-installer has chosen the right driver "SUNWaudd". But when I play internet radio or just an inserted audio CD, I can't hear sound.

- When it comes to internet radio all programs abort playing.

- When it comes to CD-Audio, the program seems to play, because my DVD-Burner spins the inserted CD, but still no sound.

Of course I already opened the audio mixer in the downer right corner of my Sun Java Desktop and put the volume slider at 50% so I should hear something, but still no sound!

I already checked my cables, but with another OS at the same computer I get sound, so all seems to be perfectly cabled.

Is there something I have to do to activate the sound? Did I forgot something?

Please help, I'm porting a game to Solaris 10, but without sound, I can't port it!!

OK, I found the solution to my problem with the kind help of J黵gen Keil, who wrote the drivers at:

http://www.tools.de/opensource/solaris/audio/beta/

He asked me what the command "mixerctl -v" tells me about my audio device. After typing in this command in my GNOME-Terminal I got my USB device from Pinnacle. I have this connected for recording VHS-video in my computer and on harddisk.

So I had no sound, because Solaris loaded the correct driver but didn't used it for my onboard sound chip, but for my USB-video capturing device.

I think the Solaris guys should better rework the correct hardware recognition and which driver gets loaded for which device!

I unplugged my USB-device and reinstalled the "SUNWaudd", then I finally got sound from my speakers! :) =D

Maybe I can help with this description some other Solaris-newbies who also have no sound and will hopefully read this thread?

Thanks for no answer in this forum!

Alex
