Solaris Express Developer Questions

Currently I am running Solaris Express Developer however i noticed there is no Subversion or CVS installed by default.

The version I am running is as follows.

bash-3.00$ uname -a

SunOS solaris-devx 5.11 snv_55b i86pc i386 i86pc

Any ideas if there is a newer version, and whether it has subversion and cvs installed by default?

Thanks

In terms of working out which version of solaris express you have, cat /etc/release would be more useful than uname -aBut as far as I am aware, no version of solaris express has svn or cvs installed by default.Download them from sunfreeware or blastwave.

Thanks.

I installed it via blastwave as you suggested and it is working well.

As far as releases i am using the following.

bash-3.00$ cat /etc/release

Solaris Nevada snv_55b X86

Copyright 2007 Sun Microsystems, Inc. All Rights Reserved.

Use is subject to license terms.

Assembled 12 January 2007

Would you know of a starting place for updates for Nevada. I have located some bugs that have been resolved in later builds but i have no idea how to update...

I have looked at the latest download for Solaris Express, Developer Edition 2/07 which is what I am running now.

I have connected the Sun Update Manager and I receive no updates.

Currently I am trying to use this as my development platform/workstation at work. Developing java applications seems to be well catered for however some sections of the desktop environment look a little rough.

I am having issues printing from Evince and Gimp, which seem to be using a different printing interface to other applications.

It seems that this "Developer Platform" may be a little green for use as a workstation without some proper update mechanisms...

I didnt think that sun produced patches for solaris express.Just the 3 monthly releases. So 5/07 is due out any day now.

You've got me there.

It is supposed to be a snapshot of what will appear in upcoming standard solaris versions.

So maybe its there for internal testing.

I have to admit I don't actually use solaris express myself. So its possible I'm mistaken about some things.

You could try asking on the open solaris forums.
