How to Configure an Intel 536EP Modem

Hello:

I don't know if this is the right place to ask this.

I'm new to Solaris world. I bought an Ultra 10.....Installed Solaris 10 and everything appears to be OK.

I installed a Modem (Intel 536EP) It has Linux drivers but I don't know how to install/configure it on Solaris.

Can someone please help me with this doubt?

Thanks in advance

I see two problems with your situation.

(1) Intel created that 536EP chipset, but sees no reason to write drivers.

http://downloadfinder.intel.com/scripts-df-external/Product_Filter.aspx?Product ID=977

(2) That device was intended for PeeCee's, not for SPARC architecture.

You have only one hope.

Bring your system down to OBP while the modem is installed and do ...

OK show-devs <enter>

Do you see the modem device ?

If "yes", then write your own drivers.

( I predict that it will not be recognized by OBP, thus totally non-functional even if you had drivers for Solaris. )

Find different hardware.

SPARC architecture will not work with every item designed for x86 computers.

In fact, SPARC systems rarely work with PeeCee devices.

Your 536EP device does not appear anywhere in the PCI device paths.

It is therefore not recognized as a compatible device. It'll be ignored.

If the system ignores its existence, it will just not work.

Go get a different modem.

Get an external one, instead. Those work with SPARC systems.

You can use Google for guidance with that.
