Solaris 10 & Vista Business on Dell D620

I am interested in installing Solaris 10 on the same system with Vista Business. Vista is allready on the laptop. I have a D620. My first problem is that I cant even get the dvd or cd's to boot.. How do I get them to boot? My next MAJOR question is will my data be lost if I am trying to install for a dual boot with my existing system? Thanks

You would have to enter yours laptop BIOS setup, depending on the motherboard and verision of BIOS you use, you would have to press the key "ESC" or "DELETE" or "F2", usually this info is shown on the screen and tells you what you have to press and when, when the computer starts, if not just keep pressing them when you boot your computer, when you are in BIOS, find the option about the boot setting and set the system to be booted first from the CD/DVD, I'm sure you will find it easy, if you mess smth up you can always go back to defaults, no worries.

It's always a good idea to have a backup when performing such operation, but your data probably won't be lost, simply your boot loader will not work if you mess it up, but at a later time if you know what you doing you can repair it, and boot your computer with the same data on it.

there is a nice tutorial on the net about dual booting vista and solaris:

Good luck!
