Login Hangs using GDM

Hello,

I have a problem that I have not been able to fix. I am using gdm to login to my Solaris 10 x86 server, but I am initally only able to log into the Failsafe Terminal. Once I log into the Failsafe Terminal, I can exit and log into any other mode (JDS, CDE, and Failsafe JDS). This is the first Solaris 10 install I have used, so I am unsure how to proceed. If I try to log into any other terminal type, the server hangs. Also, if I try to use dtlogin, the server hangs without displaying any login screen.

Has anyone else seen this problem before? Thank you for any assistance you can offer.

Do you have to jump through these hoops every time you want to login?

After installing Solaris 10, and after the very first login using the Failsafe

Terminal, do the other sessions become available forever thereafter? Or do

you have to do this each time you try to use JDS or CDE?

If this is a one-time issue, then let Sun know your system specifications,

and hopefully they will solve the issue down the road. Good news is, that

your system is fully functional after that initial login issue.

Your post will hopefully help some others who have run into this problem,

but have not tried the solution you found. You may want to include your

specs so others can see if their system matches yours. (which Sun X86/64)

If this is something you have to do repeatedly, I would try a reload with a

full + OEM, no custom packages, and then patch fully before making any

customizations/modifications.
