Solaris 10 x86 installation does not start

Hello Solaris gurus,

I am trying to install Solaris 10 11/06 x86 on my SONY Vaio laptop. I already have Windows XP installed and I have reserved about 9 GB for Solaris (same hard drive). I have been reading threads on a bunch of different forums about dual-booting XP and Solaris. I had done it for XP and Ubuntu Linux before without any complications. The problem is that installation won't even begin. I have used both the DVD provided by Sun and the burned image CDs but setup won't even start. I get the following output:

Loading stage 2 ... (After that, GRUB picks up and I choose Solaris from menu). Then it prints a sequence of dots (I think it checks for RAM capacity) and then stops there without doing anything.

RAM is 256 MB and the 9 GB partition is formatted as FAT32. Any ideas?

Mike

I had the same problem with a Sony Vaio PCG-FXA36. I found somewhere (don't remember where) that it could mean that Solaris will not work on your computer. I recently bought a new computer and it gets past that part fine with the exact same disc I used on the Sony Vaio, so it is not the media.
