How to identify server model

I have an old RISC-based Sun server, but don't know it's model or partnumber. However, I were able to determine is the server's S/N: TW82639770. Can I use this s/n to get some more specs? There is no installed OS so I cannot use any software tests.

you can either go serial cable (null modem cable hooked up to another computer) or if you have a Sun keyboard/mouse, you can get it to post and it should say in the splash screen what it is...maybe a description of the beast might help!haroldkarl

The serial syntax of factory code, year/month/day, and sequential numbering

let's me make a prediction that it's an Ultra5/Ultra10 system,

else it's a SME Ultra AXe bare systemboard OEM'd by Sun and in a generic 3rd party chassis.

It was manufactured on Wednesday, the 24th of June, 1998 (year/month/day = 8263),

and originally sold to someone that was NOT in North America (factory code TW).

As Harold noted, there are tons of investigative things you can do

by just going to OBP.
