Regex = Regular ExpressionSo might suppose that one says it exactly like concatenating the sounds from the above words.

I've heard both regular expressions and that silly "rejex." My personal choice is the former.

I think it depends mostly on where in the world you are today.

> Ree-Jax

That'd have to be a yank.

> Ray-Jax

Maybe a Swede?

> Ray-Guh-X

A Pakistani, or maybe just a dude who's watched far too much Star Trek?

> Ray-Jix

A Canadian, Or a Swede who learned to speak English in New Zealand.

> Ree-Jix

Definitely a Kiwi.

Seriously, you just take the REG from "regular" and the EX from expression and butt them together; what's so difficult about that? Is there a huge portion of the human race that I don't know of that pronounces "regular" REJular?

yeah but that way doesn't 'sound' right. it's too 'harsh' a sound in the middle of the word.

i mean, i know you're the rejex guru, but i can't take your advice here :)

i may just add, however, that i don't think i've ever 'said' rejex. i normally just say regular expression.

Not unless they've spent too much time in Seedknee.

I agree. And there's already a tradition for this. We have Pius X, and Malcolm X. What's wrong with Reg X?

Not to mention Fourex, a brand of condoms, and XXXX an Aussie beer drunk by Queenslanders (Banana Benders). Now which one had a jingle that went "I feel a fourex coming on"?

I hear far too many people pronounce it "rejex" and I've always wondered why. I have to assume they don't know where the word comes from.

I say rejex. I just prefer the sound of rejex to regex.

'regex' is pronounced 'undecipherable scrawl' by Jos and many others on this forum so I think we should standardize on this .

I bet any concrete implementation would make 'undecipherable scrawl' look decipherable .
