> No wonder kids don't seem to learn anything these days
I would STRONGLY argue exactly the opposite.
I think kids spend a criminal amount of time in school, do too
much homework, wake up way to early and learn almost nothing.
Our schools are broken. Schools are scheduled around adult
work times (no 8 year old should have to board a bus every morning
at 7 am - and yet they all do) with no consideration to child physiology.
The institutionalized curriculm keeps motivated kids unmotivated and
unmotivated kids dumb. They teach everyone the same thing when its
clear that even by the first year of highschool kids have aptitudes
in specialized fields. Homework is just busy work and there are
hours of it - therefore, time that students should be spending
enriching themselves at home they spend to do unfulfilling and
unenriching homework and theyre too drained to do sh|t.
And then theres the SAT...
I graduated highschool almost 10 years ago but i see what my
two little brothers and little sister go through and its horrific.
