patch problems

i haven't installed a newconfig patchwise successfully in a a few patches (iMS and UWC)

and, i'm having problems uninstalling the patches, so i might try and reapply them properly. uninstall newconfig works, but reinstalling says it's still installed, and won't go through with the original install.

the bits are at current patchlevel but the diff3 file conflicts, and perhaps newly created files make UWC unusable; e.g., i cannot press the 'send' button, there are lots of javascript errors, etc. (this after iMS patches 60 and 63 - sparc), and resolving diff3 conflicts, and installing the newconfig.

so i move some old files back into place - and run with the new bits, ldap changes, etc. but w/o the proper (reconciled diff3) files.

i don't know if i am not reconciling the .new files properly (i typically keep what's between <<< and === and remove below === and/between >>>

and remove any <<< === >>> notation.

i have made no customization to UWC or ME other than configuration files. Is there some way to get these to install default, and use my configuration?

I'm considering setting up a new machine (it's easier to patch) and importing ldap and mailstore. Is there some guide to doing this? If not, what are the general steps for importing an organization, users, and groups into an identical container? Can I do this with an imsbackup, ldap dump, and use a backup of my config files?

I suspect that a previous patch may not have been fully applied.

In any case, what you're running into is the diff3 seeing the "template" file not matching your "deployed" file.

With the server down, you can make these two files identical, and then the system should be willing to apply the new stuff without a hassle.I've done this in the past.
