How can I recognize the input on a CustomItem

Hi, I am doing my own TextField with CustomItems, I already have the paint method and the traverse one, everything seems to be fine, but how can I recognize the user input. I tried on the traverse method but only the keys are recognized.

Please help me I am 3 days and I couldnt have found any information.
