Does anyone know of the software requirements for 6.x? I tried looking in the documentation but the only thing I came across were the hardware requirements and OS requirements. A co-worker said that there is a swing based admin console and it requires a web application server along with a web server. Can someone please clarify this for me. Thanks.
Your co-worker is mis-informed.
Directory Server Enterprise Edition 6.0 has a new Web based Administration Console which comes with its own container : Sun Web Console.
As far as I know, there is no software specific requirements for DSEE 6.0 beside what is delivered and installed by the installers.

When Directory Server 6.1 will be released, the release notes will contain the list of supported (ie tested) app servers to deploy the Console.
If you are installing the Java ES version of Directory Server Enterprise Edition 6.0 (ie the Native packages), then the Installer is installing everything, including DSCC (into Sun Web Console).
