Local Patch Server/Proxy

In my testing, I have a local patch server configured per the helpful tips in this forum and by following some documentation posted to BigAdmin.

It works as expected with smpatch in local mode, and with updatemanager on a specific machine. I have not seen it work yet for smpatch in remote mode, but that was another post I made to this forum.

I have two questions at this point:

1) Is there any hybrid approach that would allow me to use a local patch server for proxying/caching the updates, but would still provide the GUI interface available at updates.sun.com? For example, if I register my systems with updates.sun.com, bit leave the smpatch settings pointed at my local patch server, can I then initiate jobs from the web interface but keep the rest of the communication local between the updatee and the local patch server?

2) Better yet, is there any option (other than Enterprise/Satellite) that provides a locally hosted web interface like the one available at updates.sun.com and still allows me to use the local patch server?

3) Is the Enterprise/Satellite update product available for download so that we may evaluate it?

Many thanks for your feedback.

With regards to your first question, I do not believe that this is possibleat this time.

As far as we are aware there is no alternative to Sun Update Connection Enterprise (Enterprise/Satellite) at this time.

I would suggest that you contact your Sun Account Manager, or local Sales team with regards to evaluation of the software.
