Hi,
I'm pretty sure this isn't possible unless you are happy for the end-user to keep seeing errors about the address-book not being available.
Why would you need to do this? The address-book functionality is part of UWC/CE which is a pre-requisite to using the outlook connector.
Regards,
Shane.
I would be interested in this. Our UWC service is very broken and our sysadmin will not support it. UWC regularly goes down, intermingles some users' address books or just refuses to work altogether for some users. I work around the problems as best I can by using a local Outlook address book but, as you say, the user still gets errors.
I would love to be able to configure the Connector to not use the UWC service at all.
Hi,
There is already an RFE (request for enhancement) to remove the requirement to have the UWC based address-book (#6206267 - Make Address Book Server an optional component when configuring OC) - but as the engineers pointed out, removing the address-book requirement is more about removing UWC - which is also required for the mail-filter UI and out-of-office UI.
There was also concerns about storing contacts locally due to local PST corruption resulting in loss of all data - currently this isn't an issue since email/calendar/addressbook data is stored on the server.
Therefore there are no plans to implement this RFE in the near future. You are more then welcome to push this RFE with your Sun sales reps.
With regards to your UWC service, the latest versions of UWC e.g. 118540-42 have proven to be reliable -- if the number of support requests is anything to go by. What version/patch-level are you running?
Regards,
Shane.
Thanks for the information Shane.
We do not use the UWC at all for mail or calendar functions, these are separate servers and sites. The outlook connector only technically uses the phonebook functionality of the UWC in our setup. With the removal of the phonebook requirement, there will be no need for the UWC to be running at all which is one less application to worry about, secure, and fix constantly.
In fact, in our UWC application with the latest patches, the calendar function is still broken, which brought up that fact that we only use the UWC for the phonebook which is NOT the same phonebook in our mail system.
