Using Workshop Accessing Linux

I have a solaris based cluster and on which is installed Workshop 6. I have two other clusters both of which run Linux. It is not Sun Linux. This is a setup I have inherited and I am trying to help upgrade the development environment from vi and various command line tools to XWin based GUI tools. We have Workshop, but it is not really used. One reason is much of the work is done on one or the other of the larger Linux clusters which are considerably faster.

I want to know if I can configure/tune Workshop which will be running on the Solaris system so that I can maintain, compile, develop, and run programs on the Linux boxes. Currently I can build projects on the Linux boxes, but when I compile Workshop tells me it does not know where the compiler is. I believe that is because it is on the Linux box and not Solaris box. Does anyone know how to configure this setup so I can compile on the Linux box?

Thanks, John

Workshop 6 compilers were only available on Solaris, so you either have to run Workshop on Solaris and use Linux as X server or upgrade to later version (named Sun Studio), available for free download here: http://developers.sun.com/sunstudio/downloads/index.jsp

Note that only latest early access version includes compilers on Linux right now. Stable version is going to be available very soon, however.

Any reason you have to stick with Workshop 6?Upgrade for free to Sun Studio 11 at least. It sounds like the best thing for you is to try Sun Studio 12 EAon the Linux systems. That will let you run the same softwareon both Linux and Solaris systems.--chris
