Cobalt Cube 2700WG troubles...

Hello from Switzerland.

I'm not only pretty new to this forum but also to Sun, Cobalt, Solaris and all this stuff. Before getting to topics I would like to mention that I'm no native speaker, a heavy Apple and NeXT user who is not very familiar with UNIX, LINUX and all this. So please excuse all strange expression that might occur...

I'm a collector of rather old hardware and I'm setting up my little museum which sooner or later will be made of several servers, like a NeXTcube, a A/UX server, a Newton 2100 server and so on. While looking around the internet I found a Cobalt Cube 2700 WG, as far as I know the first Cobalt Cube model available.

The problem with this cube is the restoration process of the original Cobalt OS. After downloading the CD image and burning it my only Windows laptop boots off this CD but the process itself does not start. I've been following the instructions very closely, I even got myself several network interface cards (PCMCIA) and I even tried to install NetBSD for it but the connection seems to hang just six blinkings of the network display bulb on the cube. I've been using crossover connections and even the solution with a switch, I tried to access the cube, which was configured by someone unknown befor, but I even was not able to reach the network documents of this one.

With other words: I'm stuck.

As log as my only Linux-experience was a Linux MK3 set up with an old Mac I do not have the slightest idea what I can do now, but I managed to set up the old CERN HTTPD server on my NeXTcube so I hate to give up now. In case someone is experienced with this rather old server appliance I would appreciate any help on this very much.

With kind regards from Switzerland

Jens
