Java 1.6.0_01-b06 won't run LiveApplet webcams
For example, here's a link to one that won't work
http://www.ci.gulfport.fl.us/City_Departments/Leisure_Services/Marina/Large_Cam/lvappl.htm
This link always worked fine before I upgraded to this version. I'm running XP SP2 with all the recent updates.
The problem is......I get the first frame of the video, but the video will not refresh. Data from the video stream is continually being downloaded to my computer, but Java isn't updating the video as it downloads.
I've tried using Firefox and Internet Explorer and the results are the same.
I verified my version of java on this website and I got no errors. Can anyone tell me what to do to fix this, or is it a bug with this version of Java?

I suffer from the same problem with a laptop running Java 1.6.0_01-b06 too. Two other computers not running the latest do not have the problem. The two other computers are running IE 6 and this could be the problem but I haven't been able to track it down. Any ideas?

I have the same problem. I do suspect the Java. I actually went back to SKD 1.1.8 to make sure my Applet would run on Mac OS9. It runs on Win98, ME, OSX and Linux. I have put traces on, seen the stuff run. I've flipped Image variables to still no go...As a fix, I have the browse check the Java version, if it's a 1.6 I open a new window and use Meta Tag Refresh treating the cam image as an HTTP document...

I found a workaround for the problem, though I'd rather the problem have been fixed by a java update.
Apparently Java 1.6.0_01-b06 is a version intended for Windows Vista. I'm running XP. You'd think the updater would do an OS check before telling people that there's a new version of Java.
Anyways, the workaround is to go into "Add/Remove Programs" and uninstalling java. Then downloading the previous version here and installing it.

The name is Java Runtime Environment (JRE) 5.0 Update 11. I installed this and the controllable Gulfport cam works like new. Its a nice past-time to zoom in on girls in bikinis.
Thanks for all the replies.

WOW! I removed all Java entries in the add/remove, rebooted, and my Webcam32 is back working/updating properly!! I didn't even get around to putting Java 5 back in but I will only if things stop working. I don't know enough (anything) about Java but it will be a long time before I let it do another update or try to install anything. A BIG thank-you for that post - you gave me the courage to rip it out!

Just a few days after I'd stated that the older Java 5 Update 11 fixes the webcam issue I'd been having, now they release a new version of Java 5, Update 12. I didn't expect they'd still be releasing new versions of 5 now that 6 is out.
I just installed Update 12 and it also runs fine with LiveApplet webcams, and I have no issues with it so far.
On a related note, the newest Firefox 2.0.0.4 states that it is incompatible with Java 6. But Java 5 Update 12 works fine with it.
Java Runtime Environment (JRE) 5.0 Update 12 can be downloaded here http://java.sun.com/javase/downloads/index_jdk5.jsp
