Advice needed

Good-day to all,

It has been about 14 months that I have been learning Java from the beginning. Currently, there is a event which is open to all students of chosen schools in my country to take part in a so called "Java Applications Competition".

I've been offered a place by my school to take part in it. It only offers 2 categories : Web 2.0 Applications or Mobile Applications. We would have to develop this using JAVA and NetBeans 5.5.

Unfortunately, since I'm just a beginner in java, I only have knowledge on creating applications using Swing and OOP. I do not have a least bit of knowledge of NetBeans, Web or Mobile Applications.

I would only have a "jumpstart class of 2 hours", 2 weeks to learn everything from start, 4 weeks to develop and I would have to hand it up. And all of these are during my school period. I would really want to join in, but sometimes obstacles are too big for me to overcome.

Do you think that it is advisable to back-out now? Rather than rushing everything and there might be a possibility that I cant develop it.

thanks

What have you got to lose by giving it a go? Sometimes, a little bit of pressure can give you quite a lot of impetus to improve

My adivice is go for it...give it your best shot.Download NetBeans, start with an app which you think can build using your current set of knowledge of various topics on Java.It is not always winning important in a competition, you will learn lots of things on the way , good for you in long run...

Have fun while learning....
