Installing Solaris 10 on a Windows XP machine

I decided to experiment with Solaris & got myself a copy of Solaris 10.

My machine has a single disk with 3 partitions & WinXP SP2 is installed on the first partition, C:

While installing Solaris, I noticed that the installation with erase the entire disk & create Solaris partitions. I tried to find a way to install Solaris in the second partition but could not find one.

Now, I simply cannot afford that because I have my valuable files on my machine. Moreover, becuase I am accustomed to the Windows environment & it will surely take some time & effort, before I decide to switch to Solaris platform completely, I want both the OSs to co-exist in a dual boot mode.

Can anyone suggest me any way to accompolish that?

Any solution would be highly appreciated.

Thanx in advance...

OK, I got a solution myself.

What you can do is to create some raw space(my distribution required atleast 2.9 GB approx.) on your disk without any file system on it (To create raw disk space in Windows, you will have to delete an existing partition and leave the resulting space as it is, without formatting it with any File system. You can delete a partition using Administrative Tools found in the Control Panel).

Then again initialize the Setup for Solaris. The setup should detect the raw space, and you can choose to create a Solaris partition inside it.

Remember, the space should be atleast equal to that required by the installation).
