Connecting xp pc to sparc 20 sunOS 4.1.3_U1
How do I configure a network for connecting a pc running windows xp with a sparc 20 running SunOS 4.1.3_U1? I am using a network cable that connects the two directly without a router. I am unsure as to which files need to be changed and what names for sunOS that are used with windows xp. I do not need any firewalls or extra security. If successful, I wanted to do the same with a 4/300 running 4.1.1 or 4.1.3 Any help would be greatly appreciated. I am a hardware guy and I have limited networking experience. Thanks,

I agree that this forum is a wrong place for you. Just out of curiosity, what type of network cable do you have? Why don't you want to connect two computers using a router and perhaps a hub?
In my opinion, I would set up an isolated network using a router, a hub, and two computers and configure software to use static ip addresses for simplification.

The cable avoids the extra hardware, but is only good if you plan not to expand the network. I am using static ip addresses. I just had trouble getting the computers to see each other. I managed to sort it out by playing with the tcp/ip settings on the pc. I just wish I had an easier solution for low cost printing directly from the sparc 20. Thanks for your help.

Sorry, the cable is cat 5, but the send/receive lines are swapped to allow to computers to connect directly to each other. I think it is called a crossover cable or something like that.
