ldap intermittent response - need help!

I have a Solaris 9 (122300-02) server using openldap 2.2.5. It's in a group of 5 servers and is the only one experiencing the problem.

Simply put, sometimes you can connect, sometimes you can't. Also, doing an ls -l on user files returns usernames sometimes, uid's other times. Sudo is also screwed up and returning errors.

I've compared various config files I can think of to the other servers and they're the same.

Some errors in messsages are:

Mar 20 17:55:21 local@ httpd[20390]: [ID 292100 user.warning] libsldap: could not remove 10.0.2.24 from servers list

Mar 20 17:55:21 local@ httpd[20390]: [ID 293258 user.error] libsldap: Status: 7 Mesg: Session error no available conn.

Mar 20 17:55:21 local@ httpd[20390]: [ID 293258 user.error] libsldap: Status: 7 Mesg: Session error no available conn.

Mar 20 17:55:24 local@ httpd[20637]: [ID 293258 user.error] libsldap: Status: 91 Mesg: openConnection: failed to connect using TLS (Error 0)

Also get this (somtimes, other times it works):

# ldaplist | more

ldaplist: Object not found (Session error no available conn.

Anyone seen this before? I don't understand why it works sometimes, other times it doesn't. Help!!

Thanks

This turned out to be caused by nscd not running.
