Sun Ray Software - General Discussion - null
Hello,
I just came by a used (surplus) Sun Ray 100. I've done a little research, but still have a few questions:
1) Is there any open-source alternative to the Sun Ray Server Software?
2) Is there any way to run SSH/X-Windows on the Sun Ray 100?
3) When I power up the machine, I just get an error message with a hex code for the title. This seems pretty obvious, since there's no smart card and it's not connected to a network. Is there any way to find out what the error message means. More importantly, is there any way to access any administration menu, to figure out whether there are any problems with the unit, or to see some configuration settings?
Thanks,
Jason

There's nothing to configure. You don't need a smartcard. You DO need to have an SRSS server on the network. Once you have that, the SunRay will find it and connect. Default is for the SunRay to be a regular graphical terminal, but you can use CAM to setup to just run certain applications automatically if you want.

No.

No.

See Appendix B of the Sun Ray Admin Guide at <http://docs.sun.com/app/docs/doc/819-2384>. If the unit is not connected to a network then it's going to be telling you that it can't bring the Ethernet link up.

There is no administration menu and there are no configuration settings, at least not in any Sun Ray firmware that's been released yet. The unit gets everything from the network, starting with acquiring an IP address through DHCP.
