Hi Dave

How goes the battle - it's getting warmer - maybe you won't have to head south :-)

Do you use the StarOffice Suite? I would think you would be encouraged to but ?

If you do I thought you might be able to give me a pointer as to where I am going wrong.

I went to the support on line but it is not too helpful

I am trying to explore the StarOffice Base facility in a copy of Star Office 8 which I was given

as a complimentary download last Fall.

Until now I have used the package mainly for Word Processing, Spreadsheet, Image editing,

Presentations and HTML editing.

Aside from the long startup time I have had no serious problems once I got used to the syntax etc.

Now I am trying to use the DataBase portion but although I can create a database and tables

and access and modify existing dbf tables. I can't save created tables to a different format.

egdbfcsvorplain text

When I have the table open the Save and Save As buttons in the File Menu are grayed out.

When I open the File menu in the main form the Save button is grayed out and the Save As only

allows me to save to a different name in the same format.

I also have OpenOffice as a U3 app on a USB flash drive - I have the same problems using

the database portion of that ?

The help files say I can do these things but the buttons are not active.

Are there some filters which need to be activated or something like that?

Cheers

Thom

Dave,

This forum is user-to-user and not full-fledged Sun techsupport.

Nor is this one of the internal support email aliases that abound in the company.

Perhaps you can find someone (one of your DSM's ?) to suggest a more appropriate alias.

Also consider having the customer call directly to techsupport.
