Installation on Solaris8

Hi there,

I hope someone here can help me....

I have tried to install SunStudio11 into a Solaris 8 SPARC machine, but the installation procedure is always failing when it tries to install the compilers...

Any idea? Is there more information that I can give?

I have installed everything in default mode in /opt/

Regards,

Ricardo

(PS: everything went smooth on Solaris10)

First, read the installation guide and be sure you are following the proper procedures.

http://docs.sun.com/app/docs/doc/819-3052

If that doesn't help, completely uninstall the partial installation. (Instructions are in the installation guide). Make sure no other compiler was installed in /opt/SUNWspro.

Then try the installation again, and report the error messages you get.

I read the installation guide before making the installation and had it by my side while performing it.

I will use the uninstaller to remove anything that might have been installed.

I have no other compilers installed in /opt

This is a fresh install of Solaris8 (the most recent version)

I'll post my results here soon!

Thank you very much for your suggestions!

For what i could perceive, something went wrong in the installation and it started to erase the what it had installed :-(

from the 'install' log file i can see the following:

******************************************************************************* *********************

Installation of <SPROnbreg> was successful.

And then it starts removing everything... am I missing some kind of registration? it's strange to me because on Solaris 10 (pre-installed) i had no problem installing this.

Thank you,

I managed to finally install the Compilers.... I have no idea of what was going wrong, but thanks to the 'uninstall' tip, i uninstalled everything again and, instead of making a standard installation, i just chose the Solaris Patches and the C and C++ compilers with the 'custom' option.

I have no idea what was going wrong with the installation, but i can provide any additional details (log files) if needed.

Thank you very very very much ;-)
