Installation - Cannot type in Password box on Sign On screen

Dear Sun Forum,

I received the installation DVDs for the Solaris 10 Operating System on 3/23/07.

After the installation of the DVD (which went smoothly), I proceeded to start the system.

However, when the screen appeared for me to sign on and enter my "User Name" and

"Password", the "Password" cannot be entered.I have no problem entering my

"User Name", but when I try to enter my Password.... nothing happens! I am unable to type anything into the box designated for the "Password". It seems as if my keyboard has been disabled.

I cannot understand why nothing appears when I try to enter my Password.

I installed the DVD 3 times (which took a good part of the weekend) and the

same problem occurs every time I try to sign-on to the system.

Can you advise me of any solutions for this problem?

Thank You for you assistance,

Charles Weller (Cpennyspal@msn.com)

thats because the login screen in Solaris doesn't echo back anything when you type your password.

Did you ever tried to enter your password when asked to, and then press ok or enter?

Most commands in the unix world takes passwords silently, for example telnet, su, ssh and the login prompt, never expect to get a * back when you type your password.

Thank You so much for the advise. I tried it and it worked fine.

I was able to sign on and activate the system. However, I must

Configure the Network Proxy Settings to access the internet and

I have no clue how to do this. As you can tell, I'm not very

knowledgeable and did not know I had to do this or how to do it.

Thanks again,
