Simultaneous Netra 440 1.6 CPU upgrade and 2GB memory upgrade

It is okay to perform a Netra 440 1.28 to 1.6 CPU upgrade and a 2GB memory upgrade at the same time (i.e. rather replacing the old DIMMs on the new CPU, can we add the new 2GB DIMMs)? If so, are there any special procedures that are required?

I don't anticipate any problems with such upgrades...

... so long as your OBP is up-to-date.

CPU's and RAM are such fundamental components

that you wouldn't even need to do any reconfiguration reboots.

You are using 100% Sun-branded components for these upgrades ?

You have already contacted Sun about any such "gotcha's" ?

Glance through the Netra 440 system documentation:

http://sunsolve.sun.com/handbook_pub/Systems/Netra_440/Netra_440.html

The Upgrade Guide, the System Administration Guide, the Release Notes,

and the Service Manual should provide good pointers on what you need to watch for.

Thank-you. We will be using Sun components for the upgrades. The documentation that I looked at did not say that this could be done...but it did not say that we could not either.

It makes sense to me that this could be done, but I wanted some confirmation. When you say contact Sun, you mean through their customer support?

If you're purchasing the upgrade parts from Sun directly,

then you already have access to Sun's pre-sales techsupport.

If you're acquiring the upgrade parts from a dealer or VAR

or through some sort of e-commerce procedure,

then "Yes", contact TechSupport for their opinion on this.

Sun's conventional after-sales techsupport is a separate resource.

They would be a great place for accurate information.

(Remember, these forums are only user-to-user conversations.)
