Sun Netra T1

I just bought a Sun Netra T1 AC2000, however the system asks for a "firmware password".How would I reset it?I tried fooling around with jumpers, jp13/jp14 with no success.Where is the password stored? in NVRAM or in the System Configuration Card?

Hi,

I think that the firmware that this is referring to is the ALOM firmware,

not the NVRAM or Sys config card.

I've not had much experience on the T1 AC200 but have plenty on the

model t1 model 105 and have seen similar prompts. This was down

to the alom firmware being corrupted. I have never seen this is the field

only in manufacturing.

Regards

By performing a simple forum search, using firmware password

I tripped over

http://forum.java.sun.com/thread.jspa?forumID=830&threadID=5109092

and

http://forum.java.sun.com/thread.jspa?forumID=841&threadID=5081793

Does that cover your issue?

Well thi is the first Sun Sparc system that I bought, and I did see the posts that you mention, I was hoping that a quick swap of the system card would do the job or playing with jumpers(like in the pc bios world).

The system is missing the OS and I do not have access to another solaris sparc box. However if I boot without the configuration card I am able to issue some commands, whereas if I boot with the system conf. card I cannot do anything since it is always asks for pass:(

Is my only option is to replace the IDPROM?

I recommended that this unit was bought by a local non-profit org. with a limited budget, having experience with a solaris on remote/x86 basis I thought I could configure the machine pretty quickly, I never expected this to come up:(

I am also getting these errors, could they be related to the firmware password issue(I read online that a person had same problem due to bad memory)

Perhaps it's time that they go back to the reseller and get the system replaced.Words such as `defective merchandise`, and `bad faith sales practices` come to mind.

I called sun, they want a minimum $2,500 deposit upfront before they look at this problem..

Anyhow, if I remove the system configuration card the system boots, complains about the missing card and puts me at the "ok" prompt.

I entered a password command a set a new password, but I am not sure what password does the password command change at the "ok" prompt.

I also read about stop+n sequence, yet I do not have a sun keyboard, and from what I gathered this command cannot be executed over serial.

I am able to get to the lom prompt if I boot without the system configuration card, and enter "#." at the ok prompt. I need to type these commands to reset the pass:

bootmode reset_nvram

reset

However the only command that seem to work at the lom prompt is the ctrl+break (^C). anything else I type does not show up on my display(using securecrt program via serial to netra)

I can't believe that resetting something as simple as a BIOS password in a pc world world would require a $2,500 commitment in a Sun world:((

Installed debian via net boot(it was set to auto), ran eeprom "set-security-mode=none". This fixed everything.

BTW, sun does not care for small businesses, greedy bill gates on the other side of the spectrum wanted $2,500 upfront to tell me that I need a new nvram or for eprom "set-security-mode=none". bs.
