SUN Fire V445 Hardware Raid 10

Hi everyone,

I am just wondering if it is possible to set up a hardware Raid 10 on a Fire V445. As far as I read the documentation the answer is no! Although it is mentioned under "Highlights" in the server's data sheet where it says: "Hardware-RAID 0, 1 und 10"

Using the SAS Controller for hardware Raid it is only possible to create a maximum of two RAID Sets. It is not possible to create kind of a logical volume consisting of more then one physical disk either.

We have got a V445 fully equipped with 8 hard disks. I thought I just had to create two logical volumes (each containing of 4 physical disks) and in a second step to mirror those two logical volumes. Apparently this was a misinterpretation!

Could anybody be so kind to point me into the right direction of solving such a issue. Would the default solution be to use SVM to set up a Raid 10?

We would prefer a hardware based solution if possible.

I would be grateful for every hint!!

Regards,

Juergen

I also thought I could do that with the hardware.
