Netbeans 5.5 + Portal Server 7 Test Environment on WinXP
Hi All,
Please please tell me Sun has thought of a test environment for Portlet Development on Portal Server 7?
What I am looking for is something that equates to IBM's Rational Application Developer with portal tooling and test environment (a stripped down version of their portal product). This allowed me to use the exact stack and then do a 'portlet integration test' by starting up the full server (which required no additional services to be started) and seeing the fully functional product on my desktop before committing my changes to version control. I know Java Studio Enterprise can do this exact functionality, only its for portal server 6, and that creator can do it for 7 but lacks the functionality i need from the netbeans 5.5 platform.
At this stage all i can find is a windows installer for JES which requires me to install 4 products alongside portal. As experienced by others on this forum, the installer does not work and fails using CACAO. The portal pack tools look fantastic and seem to be able to deploy to portal server 7, only there is no version of portal server 7 that can be run on windows. On top of this im not sure if i can run a 'stripped down' version of portal server 7 for application development purposes.
My current thoughts are to develop on tomcat/glassfish and use the portlet container open source product to develop portlets using netbeans and portal pack, but does not seem like a very stable path to follow at this stage.
Can someone please tell me that i have overlooked a sun product that can do what i am after!
thanks for hearing my gripes and hopefully someone has something that can help me :)
