Difference between Address Space Identifiers& Alternate Space Identifier?

Hello ,All,

UA2005-current-draft-HP-EXT provides the detail of Address Space Identifiers. In MicroArch, there is a saying Alternate Space Identifier Accesses. It is not so difficult to get through Address Space Identifiers. As regards Alternate Space Identifier ,It confused me.

Is Alternate Space Identifier the same with Address Space Identifiers?

If not, what Alternate Space Identifier functions?

Thanks in advance!

The two terms refer to the same thing. The UltraSPARC Architecture term "Address Space Identifier" (ASI) is the correct terminology; the MicroArchitecture spec should be corrected to become consistent.

ASis are referenced in Load and Store from/to Alternate [address] Space instructions, hence it's easy to slip in the word "Alternate" when expanding the acronym "ASI", even though it's not technically the correct word.
