Installing Messaging Server 6.2-8.04: core Patch 118207-63
Hello Every One
I am using Sun Java(tm) System Messaging Server 6.2-6.01 (built Apr 3 2006)
libimta.so 6.2-6.01 (built 11:20:35, Apr 3 2006)
SunOS hostname 5.9 Generic_118558-28 sun4u sparc SUNW,Sun-Fire-V490
We have customized webmail appearance as well as charateristic as per our requirement. Now because of some limitations in WEBMAIL, we are in process to install the above patch.
Looking guidance from all of you LET ME KNOW IF ALL CUSTOMIZATIONS IN THE CONFIGURATIONS WILL BE LOST OR NOT. In case yes then how to correct that. For example I have customized MAIN.JS file, I can not think of losing this file but at the same time NEW MAIN.JS (COMES ALONGWITH PATCH) contains some new and advance features.
Please guide accordingly.
Thanks in Advance

No they won't. Unlike iMS5.2 patches, the new messaging server patches no longer nuke the old configurations/customised files. Instead they do a 3-way-diff (the patch-config step). Where there is conflicts between the new/old/customised versions, you will be notified and you will have to **manually** fix them before running the install-newconfig to install the updated files.

Suggest you read the README.118207-63 file that comes with the patch, it outlines in a fair amount of detail what the patching process does, how it works, what you need to do if a conflict occurs, how to back out the patch etc.
