***URGENT*** Help required
Hi,
Currently we have jdk1.2.2_10 installed in solaris 5.8. we have iplanet web server 4.1. we gonna upgrade java to jdk1.3. I need to know whether jdk1.3 will be compatible with iPlanet Web Server 4.1 or should we upgrade the iPlanet Web Server also..
P.S. : due to some reason(compatibility of java on other dependency 3rd party sws,) we not able to upgrade java beyond 1.3
Any help on this is really appreciable.
Regads,

I'm sorry, but why don't you ask them (or better yet read the docu/google for a newer manual and read that to find out, I'm sure it mentions in the docu what version, at least at a minimum, to use).
Also, why don't you just try it. I hope you have some sort of test server where you can test the change, and your application on the changed server, before making a productive change. And, if that's the case, then like said, just try it. And, if it's not the case, then get one. You should never make changes to a productive system without having something, that is at least very similar, to test it on first.
Since we have lot of dependencies with other softwares, the recommended java version is 1.3.To check in test severs too we need to get the license info and permissions. so we are not able to do that.-Artho

so they can read the manual
The problem is neither we nor they(SA) are not having manuals with those information.-Artho

All companies will give out limited length testing licenses, so that is not an excuse. And, if you are going to make the change on the production server directly, then regardless of what you find out here, or what you are told will happen, or what you expect will occur, or whatever, expect problems. And expect a good chance of a MAJOR problem.
We will be installing in test server before going to prod. But even then we cannot directly go and install in test directly without confirmation. Since the software developed completely depends on Java and moreover the test env shud be up n running for other projs deployed on the test server.
So, please just let me know whether JDK1.3 will suppport iPlanet Web Server 4.1 or not.

I am mystified as to what you will do if I say that you will have no problems? How do you know that I or anyone else on this forum are expert enough to be able to say? Are you going to trust us? Of course not! You are going to have to contact the suppliers of your software and you are going to have to test anyway.
Get real.
