how do you calibrate an image in java?

i am supposed to do calibration in my applet but i have no idea how to do it.what is image calibration in the first place?and how is this done in java?codes would be very helpful in here.... thanks...

what my client meant with calibration is just that which concerns dpi's...can somebody pls help me with this?how do i make an images dpi change in java?any reading on this will really help alot...thanks.
