Availability of LDom on other platforms

I just read the blueprint overview for LDOMs and think this is very promising. I see it's on T1k and T2k now, but we run larger models, all sparc based, and hopefully Opteron in the future. What is the future path for other platforms? We're also upgrading to Solaris 10 across the enterprise this year. Is it likely that we'll need to go higher on the release level than 11/06 as state in the guide I read?

The LDOM technology is dependent upon the sun4v hypervisor, which is not on the UltraSparc(sun4u) or SPARC64(sun4us) systems. The niagara 2 servers will be coming out sometime this year according to some articles out there. That will double the threads, include an FPU per core, TOE, PCI-E controller, and 10GB ethernet build-in. I'm not sure if the hypervisor will be present in the upcoming ROCK processor, but it does appear to be a large CMT design.

For the x86 space, Xen should be released as part of Solaris 10 in a update sometime this year from what I've seen on opensolaris.org. So that will be the equivalent for the x86 space.

I'm not as familiar with the new architectures like Niagra, so I may be off on my next comment. It sounds like there's no firm plans for LDoms on sun4u architecture, correct?

LDom's are dependent upon a hypervisor which is only on the sun4v architecture. So it just won't work with the sun4u architecture. You also have to consider that as of today, the UltraSparc IV+ is only a dual-core cpu, so there's not much to work with:(
