Problems and Questions

Hello,

Installation and Config of my first LDom on T2000 without big problems, some are:

- SUNWldom[ru].v Packages from 11_06 are not installed

- Firmware Upgrade failed first time, I think due to too match aktivity during flash

- exit console during installation and reconnect goes in shell, not installation console. installation ist not completely consistent with jumpstart config.

but after some tests I have problems:

I rebootet the Service-LDOM to answer the question if it influence the other LDoms (It does ;-), but after that

ldm say: can not connect to ldom manager

- svcs ldmd says running

- after some reboots ldmd fails

- the ldom still runs and is avaliable over console but not net

Boot warnings:

- MD is the same as the old one

- OPB Variable with ldom are wrong

Sorry, but I allready installed Solaris again, after a Crash during SUNWjass, result in some weired /etc/ Files (esp. system),so I write down problems from memory.

Anybody experienced similar problems?

Wolfgang

Hi,

If you reboot the service domain, which is also the control(a.k.a primary) domain, you basicly yank the network, storage, etc services from your guest domains. So they can potentially hang if you have apps running. It's kind of a difficult thing to explain, but basically service domains own one or both of the PCI-E switches. It virtualizes the devices and services the I/O for the guest domains. This is done through the LDC's (Logical Domain Channels) in the hypervisor. As a result, it's unwise to reboot the service or control domain without shutting down your guest domains.

The SUNWldom packages are part of the Solaris 10 11/06 (Update 3) or higher OS (Solaris Express). You have to install this version, you can't just pull the packages and install them on an older release. The firmware upgrade should be done with the platform turned off, so you can't automate it through jumpstart. This is outlined in the included documentation. Another key thing to point out is that the 118833-36 patch has to be installed in single-user mode and the server rebooted. So that may cause issues depending on how your jumpstart is setup. The other patches have to be installed afterwards and the server rebooted again before you can install the Logical Domain Manager software. This is obviously only required if you are running Solaris 10 11/06. So if you are using Solaris Express, the patches are not required as long as you are on build 57, if I remember correctly.
