Messed up OB alias on Ultra 5 - no video

Hi all

I was trying to add a Raptor card to run my Sony monitor at a higher resolution than the ATI and wiped the devalias for the ATI and now neither card works. I tried a (blind) reset by powering off / on Stop-A / reset and plugging back into the ATI for a reboot but alas, no video output.

Has anyone a suggestion for a self confessed tinkerer?

You've misconfigured something.

You cannot remove a hard-coded device alias for an integrated component.

If the system boots, but you're simply in a state whereby

there's no output to any screen, you could consider:

(1)STOP-N during POST to set everything back to factory defaults.

( that would be "N" for normal, or native, or neutral,

or however else you need to remember that keyboard sequence for what it does ...)

Then once you've regained usability from the integrated video,

you can unalias whatever you've misconfigured.

or ...

(2) Remove the keyboard and mouse, attach a null cable to the TTYa port,

and work from another directly attached system.Hyperterminal, TeraTerm, Minicomyour choice.

Then you can comfortably administer your system through its console.

You'd be able to unalias and/or set to defaults whatever you were working on.

... or some combination of both.
