Blade 2000 post beeps

Hi,

Have a 2000 that was powered off. Turning it back on the emblem and CD light come on, nothing on the keyboard. After the HD spins up it beeps 3 times and goes dead. There is no OBP video on the display.

Did a google and found nothing on this. Looked in the service manual and found nothing on what the number of beeps mean during boot. Any suggestions?

I would double check the CPU(s). Make sure to use the required torque tool that is inside the cover.Make sure to torque the screws very even. If the CPU is off by a little bit in the socket it will damage the system board and/or the CPU connector.

I had a similiar issue with a Blade 1000. The first thing to check is to see if everything is properly seated...cpu(s), memory etc. Should that not resolve the issue, the next best thing to do is get your hands on a null modem cable and tip into the machine. This will give you a better indication of what is really going on.

Hi All,

I found and fixed the problem so I am posting this for those that may experience the same thing. About a week before this occurred I ran VTS and found a problem with the MAX 1617 test. This is a IC on the CPU board that measures ambient temperature. VTS reported that it had failed. Later when I powered down the machine this failure at POST prevented the system from operating. I replaced the MAX1617 on the CPU board and it powered up OK. Ran 2 hours of VTS with no failures and have powered the machine up and down several times with no anomalies. It has 4 cutouts around it in the PCB to reduce thermal conductivity and is a 16 pin TSOP package that is easily replaced. Hope this helps someone. Thanks for the responses.
