Cannot add patch on Solaris 8

First off, I apologize for posting in the Solaris 9 forum, but there is no forum for 8.

Now to my problem.

I am trying to apply the patch for daylight saving time to my Solaris 8 system (I know, I'm cutting things a little close but....)

Anyway, I'm not having any (good) luck.

My problems are many. First, when I try to go into Single user mode something strange happens. From the console attached to the server I type shutdown -i s. The screen (again directly attached to the server) goes blank and I lose access to the computer, however I can still tel-net into the system. This seems to be exactly opposite what I understand single user mode to be.

I decided to try to install the patch from the telnet terminal. I su'd to root and downloaded the patches I need. This is my next problem.

The contents of the /etc/release file show my system as: Solaris 8 2/02 s28s_u7wos_08a SPARC. But I can not find a patch for this particular build, the closest is for 8 2/04 (patch ID 125226-01).

So I try to install that patch from the /tmp directory:

patchadd 125226-01

gives this output:

Checking installed patches...

One or more patch packages included in

125226-01 are not installed on this system.

Patchadd is terminating.

Can this patch not be applied to this release? Is there a release available for my build? Am I hosed?

Thanks for any help.
