Preinstall query

Hi All,

This is my first post here. I am preparing to install Solaris 10 on a new system I have just built. Over the past few years I have gone completely away from Microsoft products toward Linux, running servers built around Fedora Core 3-5 and Mandriva 2006 OSs.

I seems to be the only one here locally changing over to Solaris. There are only two other Linux installers here, but I am not happy with the direction Fedora in particular has taken of late.

I would like to be able to promote Solaris here as a solution to be taken seriously, once I have made myself familiar with it.

This new box I have assembled none of the other OSs seem to like very much, especially the video card and onboard ethernet adapter, so before I install Solaris 10 I thought I would ask if there are any issues on which I might keep an eye during install.

The main board is an ASUS P5L 1394 using the Intel 945P chipset with an 80GB SATA drive. That will do for the OS, and I will add 2-3 250GB drives as required later. I will probably upgrade to a Core 2 CPU later as well.

The video card is an ATI Radeon X550 PCIe card. Mandriva and Fedora both appear to have problems with this card, as I note some discussion on various forums about this problem.

There is not much else I can think to ask.

Thank you in anticipation,

Gil
