MB.T_ENC problem

hello,

my Sunfire V240 is having the following problem. It does not seem to heat up but, sometimes it powers itself off with a shutdown due to

SC Alert: TEMP_SENSOR @ MB.T_ENC has exceeded high hard shutdown threshold.

now, when i run showenvironment on the sc> prompt, the CPU's seem to be in normal temperature.

so, what is MB.T_ENC?

this is a sample of my current environment/temp status:

MB.P0.T_COREOK 51------110115118

MB.P1.T_COREOK 50------110115118

MB.T_ENCWARNING-1-6-35404851

thanks before hand,

william

If I had to make a guess, MB.T_ENC is referring

to the insides of the chassis.(the enclosure)

Your cpu modules did not reach their high threshhold,

but everything else inside it exceeded 51C (124F).

Thus the system shut itself down to avoid having

some critical component melt into a puddle of fused silicon.

It may be time to send someone to the system.

Shut it down and have them open it up.

Examine it for accumulated debris, dust, flotsam, jetsam.

Then get it to power up and observe all the chassis fans.

Did the datacenter's air conditioning fail?

(You do have it in a controlled environment, of course?)

If you have service contract coverage on the system, open a support case with Sun.

thanks for the reply.

yes the server is in an environment/climate controlled colocation room.

What I am finding strange is that when a keyboard and mouse is connected, or better, when the console is NOT connected, the server does not turn switch off.

Can it be a relevant issue?

That is strange behaviour.

Have you had anyone inspect the insides of the system yet?

... or at least examine it in person and report whatever they may have observed?

Use your warranty or service contract and open a support case with Sun.

Get guidance dorectly from the company that manufactured that system.

These forums are only user-to-user discussions.
